Megan McDowell's lecture fascinated me as she started it by saying she wasn't an academic; that statement was noticed throughout her lecture. Compared to the previous lecture by Amelia Glaser, Megan McDowell's style of lecturing was more extracurricular. I'd compare it to watching a TED talk versus watching a YouTube video. It was very admirable to find out that she has made a living off of her passion. The number and type of questions that were asked at the end showed me that the majority of the room sees her as an inspiration. She thoroughly explained her translating process, even keeping time for many of her various projects. I felt the FAQs in her presentation definitely brought context and helped a lot of people who aspire to be translators. One thing I really was curious about was to see her answer to the Artificial Intelligence question asked after the lecture. I was very surprised to hear that she does use AI when she can, and sometimes it can even inspire her to change her translation.
